4 Regions that offer 4 Great Reasons to Visit Armenia

Armenia is not a vast country by any means, especially when compared to its influential neighbours. The country is landlocked and to the west is Turkey, whilst Georgia is to the north.  Iran borders the south and Azerbaijan completes the list to the east.

Four Regions
Armenia’s attraction to visiting tourists is its four unique and very different regions, each with their own distinctive micro climates. The many mountainous regions and valleys create a series of unique provinces which have very different climates and it is quite possible to have sun in one region whilst having snow in another.

Tourist
When visiting Armenia, much like its neighbour Georgia, many road signs are in English and the overriding feeling is that tourists are very welcome, unlike some of its neighbouring countries.  Any tourist will not be able to escape the fact that Armenia is one of the oldest countries in the modern world and the first country to adopt Christianity as the national religion. As such, there are many, many monasteries and places of religious significance to fill many, many visits to Armenia.

Central Armenia
Whilst considered to be very dry and arid this region does have a great natural beauty.   The political leadership of Armenia is based In this region and central government extends from here. For the tourist the region has a wide range of cultural attractions with significant emphasis on historic, religious artifacts and locations.

Lake Sevan Region
This region is lush and beautiful, largely due to the presence of Lake Sevan which is 2000m above sea level. The lake is vast and makes up a total of 5% of the Armenian geography. Surrounded by mountains, the lake has many popular beaches as well as a large number of coastal historical attractions.

Northern Armenia
This region gives visitors a unique view into the beauty of this country. To the north is Georgia and with mountains surrounding the region climbing is a highly popular pass time. The Debed River Canyon is an area which has many attractions for the tourist including some very isolated churches and Monasteries.

Southern Armenia
This region is famous for its great beauty and the border meets that of Iran. This area is famous for its caves and remote, mountainous historical memorials. A beautifully unique part of the world where East meets West and the clash of arid desert, mountain rock and lush green expanse creates a stunning natural vista unmatched anywhere in the world.

With over 3000 years of traceable, well documented history Armenia can offer a really unique opportunity to the tourist. With beaches and water sports available on the vast expanses of Lake Sevan to the rock climbing opportunities in Northern Armenia and the numerous historical and cultural museums and monasteries there is something for everyone in Armenia.
